I've always liked unglazed porcelain. Although high-fired porcelain is a very hard material by nature, leaving it unglazed gives it a beautiful, satin matte surface, and makes it very soft at the touch. It is a very suitable material for jewellery.
Making jewellery components in stained porcelain allows me to play with colours, lines and crisp forms. I usually start working with a well defined pattern and colour scheme in my head, only to get off that trail within minutes, and end up with a variety of beads and tiles that look nothing like the starting pattern. All my pieces are one-of-a-kind. I do not design with pencil and paper. Inspiration comes in the process of making.
